Our farm is in the SE part of Wyoming. We are over a mile in elevation and enjoy (not) some of the most productive (blows hard) wind in the United States. We used to get from 12" to 14" of moisture annually. This was before the drought. More recently we have had as little as five inches annually. We normally grow hard red winter wheat and oats as crops. We strip farm to help conserve moisture and prevent errosion from the wind. About half of our crops are organic.
